The Nitro Alert tool is developed to provide users with insights into the best timing for spreading manure, minimizing ammonia emissions.

The tool assumes a standard emission rate of 17% based on injecting manure with a wind speed of 3.4 m/s and a temperature of 15.2 degrees Celsius. Field trials have been conducted to measure the influence of temperature and wind and to formulate a formula based on that research.

In the tool, users can determine the best spreading moment based on predicted and measured temperature and wind for the coming week (displayed using green, orange, and red colors). Users can also see in a graph the influence of temperature and wind over the past two weeks and the next two weeks on ammonia emissions.

This tool is developed by Wageningen UR.
